So Much to be Thankful for This Holiday Season!

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

food_20driveOnly a few days from Thanksgiving and there is so much to be thankful for! Of course, we are all thankful for our wonderful families, good friends, our health, “chamber of commerce” Florida weather and so much more. In these challenging times Massey Communications feels blessed not only to be working, but also to have wonderful clients and vendors that we enjoy working with.

Please take a moment to think about those less fortunate and perhaps make a donation to your favorite non-profit organization. Here’s a few to think about:

JFS Pearlman Food Pantry – Massey Services and Massey Communications are having a food drive now through November 30. Stop by our corporate office or any Massey Services location to drop off canned items. JFS is also collecting new toys for its Get Caught Caring Program benefiting families throughout Central Florida. You can also visit Jewish Family Services at 2100 Lee Road in Winter Park or jfsorlando.org.

One of our newest clients, Smashmouth Pizza is a drop-off location for Toys for Tots. Visit the Oviedo or Clermont locations to donate your new, unwrapped toys. Go to SmashmouthPizza.com.

There are so many worthwhile causes and so many more in need this year. Please take a moment to reflect and donate to a good cause. Happy Thanksgiving!

My Valuable Internship Experience

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

job-market-adaptability[1]In 2004, when I was still in college, I never understood the full value of an internship. At the time, internships were just a requirement and a bit of a hassle on top of school and a full-time job. Looking back, it was one of  the most useful and enlightening experiences I’ve ever had.

In today’s economy, the job market has been challenging for many of us. Those of us who have found ourselves out of a job in our field, regardless of our education and experience, are very frustrated. To have completed schooling, paid your dues and still be unable to secure a job in your field is a pretty unsatisfying feeling. But does that mean we should just give up? I think not.

Since I’ve been struggling in the current job market, I’ve been doing all I can to get ahead during these tough times. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Communications and right now I’m serving tables and free-lancing different jobs. Of course, this is not exactly where I expected to be at this point of my life. I thought to myself, paid or unpaid, I need to get back into my field of work.

Three months ago, I was offered an internship here at Massey Communications and it’s been more than valuable. I’ve gained experience in areas I’ve yet to experience in my previous positions. I’m involved with projects ranging from the creation of logos to setting up events through public relations. This internship has been a key facet of sharpening my skills while keeping me in the loop of the agency world. I know when I walk into my next job interview, I will be confident and have much more experience behind me than I would have if I had not joined Massey Communications. Once the duration of my internship is complete, I will have a firm grip on where I belong. And I’m confident that when I land my next job, I’ll be able to hit the ground running.

What’s important to a future employer? Experience. The amount of experience you can gain from an internship is priceless if you choose the right one. Paid or unpaid, in school or out of school, internships can be invaluable.

Opportunity is Knocking

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

TVGiven the economy’s recent decline, many companies are holding back on their ad spending. They think it’s better to tighten their budgets and ride it out. But it is important to remember, if you don’t advertise, it may make it difficult for your customers to find you. Even now, there are plenty of consumers out there who want to buy your product or service.

Yes, times are tougher, but it’s a great time to continue advertising or to jump in if you haven’t already started. If your competition isn’t advertising (or chooses to cut back) and you are, who are customers going to call…now or even when the economy bounces back?

In some cases, there are good deals to be made regarding advertising. In other cases, the media is still doing well so they may still be charging full rate. That’s where we come in. Massey Communications has experience researching the best advertising options for our clients no matter what your budget is. You may not have enough marketing dollars to do an extensive TV campaign, but we can make recommendations about the best way you can reach your customers. And in most cases, we can negotiate a better deal than if you try to do it yourself. We recently negotiated added “perks” to one of our client’s media buys which extended its value by almost 40 percent of what they purchased annually.

We can handle it all for you, from designing and producing your message to placing your ads. We work hard for our clients, and we save time and money. Let us brainstorm with you to come up with a solid advertising plan before the opportunity slips away.

Massey Communications Enters the Blogosphere

Monday, June 15th, 2009

Instead of offering some flowery introduction to our new blog, let’s jump right into the content pool and talk about why strategic communication is essential to an organization’s survival in our new economic reality.

The rules have changed. The days of differentiation and offer are gone. It’s not enough anymore to take a few dollars off the price. And the public is skeptical about most “we’re different because” approaches. Second, benefits aren’t enough. You must convince a cynical customer why he MUST have your product or service. We’ve retreated from “discretionary spending” into an “only the essentials” mentality. Third, clarity and simplicity rule. Positive results need to come fast for most clients and customers. Your compelling key message can’t be obscured by creativity.

The essentials haven’t changed. Your external communication needs to be effective, efficient, must reach your audience, and must do so often enough so that it makes a lasting impression. That’s where sound strategy comes into play. You must know to the exclusion of all doubt who you’re aiming at, where they are, and what they want, need and expect from you. Once you’ve answered these questions, the focus turns to identifying your message and your means of delivery. The job of a strategic communication platform is, in the simplest of terms, to deliver the RIGHT message to the RIGHT audience at the RIGHT time.

Massey Communications started this blog as a means of sharing thoughts on a number of communication issues, strategies and tactics with our friends, readers and fans. I’m not the only one who will be posting here. From time to time, you can expect to hear from many of our team members blogging on a variety of subjects.  You can learn a little more about each of them here. Enjoy!
