How Will Vick Fare in the Court of Public Opinion?

Monday, July 27th, 2009

VickNow that he’s served his time for involvement in a dog fighting ring, what does the future hold for NFL standout Michael Vick?

According to multiple reports, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will likely call for a suspension of between two and six games. Vick was imprisoned for nearly two years. But do either of these punishments even compare to the penalties he’ll endure in the court of public opinion?

It will be interesting to watch as this situation unfolds. As suspected, the major news outlets are all over this story. Even Twitter is getting in on the action. Just last night, Terrell Owens launched his own Twitter campaign trying to drum up support for Vick’s immediate reinstatement.

Many, like T.O., believe that Vick has paid his debt and should be allowed to return to life as he knew it before his imprisonment. Others would like to see how Vick has changed before letting him return to his previously-extravagant lifestyle. Still others offer no forgiveness at all. Only time will tell what the future holds for Vick, though.

What do you think? Should he continue to be penalized in the court of public opinion? Or should we all move past what happened, accept that he’s paid his debt to society and let the extremely talented football player go back to what he does best?
